However: 1838 Civil Reg. Birth for Rebecca Bassett said her mother was Elizabeth Bassett, formerly Morris. (PM-302)
1841 Glamorgan Census search for James Griffith finds in North Cornelly, Bridgend:
James Griffith (65) and wife, Mary (55) and 3 kids: David (30); William (25) and Ann (19). So perhaps these are Elizabeth’s parents and siblings
1851 Glamorgan Census search for 1805-1815 for any GRIFFITH born in Pyle gives:
David Griffith (41), S/O James Griffith (80) and wife, Mary (66) and sibling, William (36).
Also: John Griffith (37), living in Tythegston with wife, Jennet (38) and 3 boys.
Searched FindMyPast.com for Death Duties Records 1853-1856 for James Griffiths - none.
The baptismal records in PM-48 seem to indicate that she was from Llanilid, Wales
1871 Ancestry.com Glamorgan Census: Says she was born in Pyle, Glamorgan. (PM-200.23)
1881 Census indicates she was born in Llansamlet, Glamorgan.
William Bassett biography says her maiden name was FRANCIS. (PM-170) but this appears to be wrong since Glamorgan Marriages (1569-1837) says her name was Elizabeth Griffith.
1891 Wales Census (Ancestry.com): John Barret (sic) (88 St Mary Hill) living at 36 Llanilid Rd., St Mary Hill with wife Elizabeth (82 Cornelly). (PM-186.1) Note: Cornelly is a village in the parish of PYLE
